The history of Wraggborough begins in the late 1800s. The village was a quiet, rural place until it became home to many textile mills and factories attracted by Charleston’s railroad access and abundant labor.
It has endured periods when cotton farming flourished, then faltered due to economic pressures imposed on small farms during the depression era, only to be revitalized as an artists’ community following World War II (1947).
Wragborough has gone through periods of prosperity and decline. The village still provides a quiet, suburban setting with its mix of older home sites on large lots and new developments which have preserved the rural charm while offering modern amenities.
