The history of South Bradenton FL is intertwined with the history of Tampa, Florida. In 1887 a small settlement in South Bradenton FL was established by pioneer farmers who were given free land to cultivate oranges and grapefruit. The area became known as “Bradentown” or “The Grapefruit Capital”.
It has many historical sites and homes that are still in use today .
In the late 1800s, Henry B Plant moved his railroad through what is now downtown Tampa to service this new citrus-growing region. For years Bradenton was just a small town on the outskirts of Tampa but in recent times it has grown into its own metropolitan area with many different neighborhoods and communities.
There are still many historical sites and homes that are still in use today from the pioneer days when oranges were first introduced to Florida by Spanish explorers.
