McCllelan Park is a neighborhood in Sarasota FL that was established in the late 1930s. The area experienced significant growth during World War II as many people moved to this city from other areas of Florida and beyond.
McCllelan Park has seen some change over time, but much remains unchanged from its early days when it was home to mainly blue-collar families with children who attended nearby schools such as George Washington Elementary and Thomas Jefferson Junior High School; both currently closed.
Today, McCllelan Park is an excellent example of how well neighborhoods can blend together despite different socioeconomic statuses. Such differences are evident on one block where there may be modestly priced houses next to expensive homes or apartments for rent available at any given time.
