History of Hills and Dales a Neighborhood in San Antonio, TX

Historically, Hills and Dales was a rural area that consisted of agricultural land. It began to change in the 1950s when people who worked at Kelly Air Force Base moved into this area for convenience.

Many families settled here because their children attended schools on base or were able to get jobs there as well. The neighborhood is home to many large ranch homes built during this time period with some smaller “starter” ranch-style houses from more recent decades as well.

The community has grown since 1951 but still remains largely suburban residential neighborhoods all around San Antonio TX including neighborhoods such as Northwood Oaks Estates, Casa Linda Estates, Silver Ridge Heights and Mountain View Estates which are just outside Central Business District (CBD) and just a short drive from the medical complexes in Northwest San Antonio.

The neighborhood has mostly remained unchanged since its beginnings, but there are some changes that have taken place such as the new Casa Linda Mall which opened in 1973 and is still one of the largest malls locally with retail establishments like Macy’s and Dillard’s department stores. The mall also features more than 180 specialty shops including several restaurants on site along with an AMC Movie Theater.

Today the neighborhood is home to a variety of residential neighborhoods, small industrial and commercial areas.
