The history of Glenwood dates back to the 1920s when it was first developed by Cason J. Callaway Jr., an entrepreneur who founded Gulf American Corporation and its successor Gulfstream Aerospace Corp with his father’s assistance before his death in 1957 at age 38 from leukemia.
Gulf American began development on this land using dredging equipment purchased for $250,000 through three subsidiaries: Land Dredge & Fill Company (LD&F), Pinellas Plantation Company, Inc., and Pinellas Realty Company.
The company began with a dredging project that created the landmass on which Glenwood now stands and then gradually built up sections of new housing through 1954 when Gulf American sold off its Florida property interests to focus primarily on aviation manufacturing at Savannah Georgia.
