Deer Hollow was originally settled by a group of German immigrants in 1882. The neighborhood is bounded on the north-west side from IH 410 to Loop 1604, south and east by SH 151 (Bandera Road) and west by Foster Rd.

Historically Deer Hollow has been predominantly residential with commercial establishments mainly located along Bandera Rd.
