History of Carter Riverside a Neighborhood in Fort Worth, TX

Named for its founder, the late Dr. J C Carter, who donated $200 to start it in 1927, Carter Riverside is a neighborhood of Fort Worth that was originally developed by African Americans and still today has strong ties with African American culture. The community was also one of the first all-residential communities outside of downtown Fort Worth during its peak years from 1930 through 1960s.

These residents were able to live on larger lots because they had more space due to segregation practices at this time period or as part of the Great Migration when many blacks migrated out of the south seeking better opportunities.This area largely grew up under Jim Crow Laws which led to harsher punishments for crimes (such as death)  and harsher restrictions on African Americans as well.

    Carter Riverside was the largest black community outside of downtown Fort Worth during its peak years from 1930 through 1960s and is considered to be an area with a more rural feel than those in other parts of town.This neighborhood has had many residents who have gone onto become famous such as George Jones, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Wes Montgomery and Roy Orbison which are all part of the Carter family legacy that still lives on today.
