History of Carramore a Neighborhood in Cary, NC

The Carramore area of Cary has a history that dates back to the 1800s.  While much of North Carolina was still rural in the early days, this part of town is where many people settled due to its proximity to railroad lines and convenience for travelers stopping at Raleigh’s Union Station.

The largest industry then and now is textiles manufacturing with companies like Cannon Mills Company having factories located here. At one point it was home to as many as 16 textile mills employing more than 12,000 workers from around the region who lived on-site either in company housing or privately owned homes nearby.

Today there are still some old factory buildings that have been converted into condos but they represent only about 15% of all residential units found within this neighborhood.
