Charter Oaks is a neighborhood in Clearwater FL that was established in the early 1970s. It’s bordered by Countryside Boulevard to the east, Sanderlin Road and Bayshore Drive on its northern edge, and Gulf-to-Bay Blvd on its southern side. The community has experienced significant growth over time with many new homes being built throughout the area.
The Charter Oak Elementary School opened at 1630 Meadowview Lane NE in 1974, replacing an earlier school of the same name which had been operating since 1967 near Wooten Parkway and Maplelawn Place NW until it became too small for enrollment requirements set forth by Pinellas County Schools. In 1981 it moved to 3300 College Avenue SE before closing in 1991.
The neighborhood’s name comes from the tree that is a predominant fixture in Clearwater FL and throughout Pinellas County, including lining historic Bayshore Drive along its northern border with Sanderlin Road.
