Carter Riverside is a neighborhood in the Fort Worth area. The homes and commercial buildings are on both sides of Clear Creek, which runs through this historic district. Carter Riverside’s history dates back to before World War II with over one hundred years of family living and commerce; it was formally recognized as an H&TC District (Historic & Traditional Cultural Neighborhood) by City Ordinance on November 25th, 2007.
The name “Carter” comes from J.F.W., Sr.’s grandfather who came to Texas around 1850-1860 for gold mining in California then settled here after hearing about good water sources in nearby Dallas/Fort Worth area.” In 1898 he bought land at Old Mansfield Road and Oak Street where he built a house and raised his family. He was the first settler in this area of Fort Worth that became known as Carter Riverside.”
